Stories are wonderful for language development and learning. Children love listening to stories and some of the classic story books in English are also available in Chinese. With the background knowledge of the stories, it is fun for kids to listen to the stories they are familiar with in the target language, Chinese.
These are a few of the story books that my children and students have enjoyed. Each has a simple storyline. They have repetitive patterns. The stories have words and sentences that you can use every day.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Here is a beloved classic children’s board book by Eric Carl. It starts with a tiny egg on a leaf and it leads to the life cycle of a butterfly. Here is another classic story for kids. I find this book a great read for kids before bedtime and before a nap. This is the book that my boy enjoyed very much when he was a baby. Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See
This is another Eric Carl’s book. I love to read this book to my young students because it has an interactive element in the story. Kids will learn color words. Good Night Gorilla
Kids love animals but time for bed usually takes some time for them. Let’s say good night to the animals with the zookeeper. Are all the animals going to bed right away? This is such a fun story. Because Dragons Love Milk
Little kids are not the only ones drink milk. In this book, there is a young child who is worried about the monster in the room before bedtime. There are the dragon, a T-Rex, and an alligator.
