Valentine’s Day: Love, Heart, Kindness, Compassion, and Empathy

Valentine's Day: Love, Heart, Kindness, Compassion, and Empathy | Miss Panda Chinese

Valentine’s Day is a day fills with love and heart.  It is time for some sweets, chocolate, and balloons.  More importantly, it is also an opportunity to teach about love, heart, kindness, compassion, and empathy.

Love and heart connect in the Chinese character “love ài ” in the traditional form.  All the Chinese phrases mentioned above include a “heart xīn ” character.  This can make a good discussion topic.  Make sure you download the love and heart printable for Chinese Play Time.

Let’s look at each word and its matching Chinese phrase with a selected definition from the Merriam-Webster dictionary.  You can view a short video of how to write the character.  I include a story video that you can use with your child to expand the learning from love to empathy.
