Teach Chinese through pictures is a tool to keep children engaged with language learning. They need to be active in the learning process. Teach Chinese through pictures with Picture Chinese series is a tool to build up vocabulary with sentences that can be applied to a simple conversation. There are fifteen episodes with forty-five expressions and fifteen basic sentence structures. You can use this resource for circling and activities.

Look and Look Carefully: George sees a rabbit. Look at this rabbit. Is the rabbit big? Is the rabbit small? Is the rabbit blue?

Listen and Listen Again: Rabbit! What a small rabbit! Do you see a rabbit? Does Mom see a rabbit? Who sees a rabbit?

Search and Find: Place pictures of rabbit, pictures of rabbit with written word 兔子, and word wall poster of
兔子 in different places in the classroom. Can you help me find all the pictures with a rabbit or the word 兔子!

Hot & Cold: You can incorporate Hot & Cold in the Search and Find activity. You or the kids can say “I see a rabbit.” louder when the finder is getting closer to the picture. You or the kids can say “I see a rabbit.” quieter when the finder is far from the picture. This can be quite exciting if you add a surprise search of a cute stuffed animal rabbit in the search.

Spot the Match! This activity idea is from a popular card game, Spot It!. Make Play cards with the words from a Picture Chinese video and randomly place the pictures and words on different cards. Each card should have ONE match picture and/or word. You need 2 players to start the game. Use the graph with key words to record points.
For parents, when you take a walk with your child you can check out what you see. You can play “I Spy” with the phrases and sentences or new items in each video. See it? Touch it and say it! You might not be able to touch a cute wild rabbit but when you spot it you can talk about how it feels to touch a bunny rabbit, what size the rabbit is, what colors you see…etc. Teach Chinese through pictures is only a starting point, there is much more to expand from the images.
