 Culture Note from Miss Panda about Chinese Regional Cuisines:

In general, Chinese regional cuisines vary by geography, climate, ethnic culture, religion and history.  Northern cuisine includes Beijing, Sandong, Xian and inner Mongolia.  With Beijing as the capital, the imperial cuisine like Roasted Peking Duck is well-known.  Eastern cuisine includes Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui provinces.  The most popular food from this region in the western world is Cantonese cuisine, such as Dim Sum.  Chinese people will tell you that Eastern China Cuisine have five of the famous eight cuisines of China, taken from the Pearl River Delta to the Yangtze River Delta.   Central China cuisine include Sichuan province and Hunan province and the dishes are hot and numbing spicy!  Western China cuisine features Muslim food (hala food) and Tibetan dishes (a blend of Sichuan, Nepal, and India styles).  Southern cuisine includes Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi provinces.  This area features minority food, such as pickled vegetables and tofu.

  1. This sounds like a great cookbook. I’ve tried egg drop soup before and it didn’t turn out very well. However, ‘simple’ sounds good! Thank you for the helpful review.

    • Lisa, The little secret step for the Egg Drop Soup is that you add a little water to the egg before you add it to the soup. After you pour the egg into the soup make sure you don’t stir it for a few seconds. When the soup starts to bubble again you can stir it and you will see a nice soup and egg mix formation. Enjoy the book! Have a wonderful day!
